FISHING REPORT FOR 2010

Winter fishing-cold water 40-60 degrees: Fishing is somewhat sporadic as is weather and wind conditions drastically affect the days we can fish and the bite of the fish. Stable weather brings stable fishing. When frontal conditions come in, fish will often change their habits and become hard to predict for days at a time. Some of the best days all year are during this period. This the time of year when an enclosed pontoon and a heater really feel good. Our winter is considered to cover December, January and February.

Spring fishing- warm water 50-70 degrees: Fishing is most productive during this period as they feed up and begin their yearly trip to shallow water for the spawn. Fish are fat and active with good numbers and size being prevalent at this time. Spring is March, April and May. March is mostly anchor fishing while April and May offer prime drift fishing opportunities. River fishing in the Congaree, Wateree and Santee river is very good in March. River charters are taken aboard our 20ft. Seark jet-drive boat along with some shallow water trips.

Summer fishing-hot water 70-90 degrees: Fishing is reliable at this time. Day time trips are hot but very productive. Night fishing is my preference as it is cooler, but we have thunderstorms and lots of bugs to deal with. Most big fish caught at this time are caught at night. Summer fishing is June, July and August. if you like fast action come on down August-September and try catalpa worms and grasshoppers fishing in diversion canal at night. This fishing will fill the freezer with 5-15lb fish.

Fall fishing-cool water 50-70 degrees: This is the most comfortable time of year to fish as fishing is good and daytime temperatures diminish to more friendly ranges. We catch some very heavy fish and have good numbers of quality fish provided the weather will allow us to get on the lake. This is prime hurricane season and everybody knows " do not try to fish in a hurricane"  Fall fishing is September, October and November.

Comments:

My style and philosophy go something like this:  I believe fresh bait is the key to consistency in all fishing situations. I like to keep my baits alive until they are ready to put on a hook. catching bait is not part of your fishing trip. I will have what I think is the most productive bait for the season on the boats when you board. I like perch, bream, mullet, herring, shad, catalpa worms and grasshoppers as my primary baits but I am always open to try other things that work. Seventy-five percent of my fishing is drifting. I do fish the diversion canal, the re-diversion canal and rivers at times of year when those area are productive. If you have a special need for your fishing trip please call me and I will try to work out whatever is necessary to make you and your party comfortable. I appreciate your patronage.

Thank you,
